Website and Magazine Planning
My website design and magazine will be aimed at males, with
male fashion in mind. I’ve chosen this because I preferred the styles of the
existing male websites/magazines to that of female ones. I think the fashion
style of the website and magazine would be similar to that of GQ and Esquire.
This is because they do show fashion but they also show other things that men
would be interested in. To have a website and magazine for men that would be
purely fashion wouldn’t interest most men, it would have to be a mixture. I
think when using a model for the magazine/website I would use a male model as
it’s for male fashion.
For the colour scheme I was going to use a mixture of black
and silver, with a while background for the text to lie on. This is because
bright colours don’t interest males normally. They’d probably be more attracted
to colours like black, silver. They are more manly colours than that of yellow,
orange, pink. My idea for the website was to have a black background with
silver for the navigation bar. The navigation bar would lie over the black and
stand out. The white would be used as a base for the text and images to go on.
This is so the text can be black as it’s easier to read black on white than
white on black. The masthead will also be in the same silver as the navigation
bar.
For the magazine I plan to have a black background for the
front cover. The masthead will be in the same silver as used on the website for
the navigation. The cover lines and sub headings will be in white so that they
don’t look the same and blend in with the masthead.
As stated above, the cover line will be in white on the
magazine. I will make these fairly big so that they stand out over the rest of
the magazine, apart form the masthead.
I’ll position it somewhere around the top of the magazine, somewhere
situated on the left hand side of the page. I’ll keep it apart from the
masthead so that it doesn’t blend in too much with it. In terms of design. I’ll
use a different font to the one used in the masthead and it will be kept at a
horizontal angle. For the website I’ll try keep it on the left underneath the
navigation bar. This is so it will be one of the first things people would see.
The masthead for the magazine will be in a different font to
that of the rest of the text on the page. I’ll also make it the same silver as
the navigation bar on the website. One of the reasons for this is so that it’s
different to the rest of the text and stands out better. I have an idea to
angle it slightly on the magazine, and the website, just enough to catch your
eye but not enough to take up a lot of space.
For the website the masthead will be again in silver and the
same font as the magazine. If I do angle it on the magazine I will also angle
it onto the website to the same degree. On the magazine I’ll make the masthead
take up the width of the page, and if I include a picture I’ll put the masthead
behind the image.
